(me and my business)
My name is Mike. I was born in 1963 and took my first picture with a real camera in 1977. I took pictures with point and shoot cameras before then, but my parents gave me my first real camera, a Praktica LB2?, on my birthday in 1977. I was a 14 year old photographer; in training anyway.
Over the next few years I studied photography books and did a lot of picture taking, upgraded my equipment, and set up my own black & white darkroom. Later on I went to doing my own color processing and printing, and did some professional photo shooting for a few friends and family members, including portrait photography and a couple weddings.
In the late 90's I started surfing the net, then started doing websites1, and got into digital photography, mostly photo editing. Digital cameras were nowhere near the quality of film, so I used my film camera(s) and just did scanning when I needed digital images. The good digital cameras can now compete with film cameras, so in March, 2012, I decided to buy a Nikon D5100. I now do photo shooting in digital, film, or both.
About My Business(es):
1My main business is websites, but photography has been something I enjoyed since I was a kid, and I have thought about doing professionally since then. I recently decided I need to spend a bit less time sitting at my computer, so I decided to return to professional photography, only this time, really go pro, not just shooting for friends and relatives. I have been doing a bit of side business2 in photography for a few years now, but not taking pictures, and that's where the fun is.
I decided to start by offering portraits at home because in today's world where it's quite common for both parents to work, people's schedules tend to be hectic. That makes it pretty hard for a family to get together long enough to go in to a studio somewhere to get family pictures taken, so instead I thought I'd make it easier for you by going to your place, or wherever you want to meet for pictures.
I also plan to offer other types of photo shooting soon, like weddings, portfolios, school photos, and more, but I chose to start with family portraits. If you or someone you know is interested in other photo shooting, please
